National Action / White Man March – Newcastle 21 March 2015

> Good grief… no sooner has Pegida UK slunk away with their tails between their legs before another bunch of  right wing fantasists are coming to Newcastle…

North East Anti Fascists

Official Press Statement

Our Banner will Read – “SMASH THE WHITE MAN MARCH

Stand Against Racism and Nazism

The North East Anti Fascists recently mobilised successfully against Pegida in Newcastle, and are now looking to develop the movement so that it can confront all far right attempts to spread hatred that divides our communities.

Amidst the wreckage of the tiny and splintering fascist scene, a group of young ‘want to be stormtroopers’ (‘National Action‘) are attempting to resurrect the deceased Nazi tradition.

We are aware that these Nazis and racists intend to try and goosestep through Newcastle on the 21st March 2015, an area which was bombed by Nazis previously and which fought against them.

The North East Anti Fascists state that such a development is to stir up racism and division, to undermine community cohesion, and is merely a self serving exercise to feed their own egos. National Action must be stopped from spreading their message of racist hate and violence, and from getting organised in Newcastle and the UK.

The provocative racist ‘White Man March’ is thought to be occurring on the Quayside.

It is clear to us that the anti fascist movement needs to be more confrontational and can do, as we need to start blocking these Nazi ‘want to be’ stormtroopers. Gathering far away and going nowhere near them is a recipe for continual failure, and is only a means of controlling and neutering what opposition there is to racism and fascism.

We had previously stated that we will be meeting at first at the official Newcastle Unites (NU) event which was advertised as starting at 10am and lasting till 1 at the Monument, when the White Man March is due to start at 2. However, NU have changed their times to 1.30pm till 4pm. NEAF will still attend the Monument, to begin with, but then we will be going on a Nazi hunt and all those who are serious about their anti fascism will be welcome to help.

The latest news is that the Nazi march will be confined to the Millennium Footbridge, by the Baltic. NEAF will be encouraging people to take anti fascism into their own hands, to be their own leaders, to take their own initiative and do what is necessary.

We do not think that a comforting message of bread and circuses, ‘do nothing and listen to the music’, when the fascists are across town is anywhere near good enough. We need to be and do better comrades, if we wish to be effective.

We will announce another convergence point and time, a demonstration – to give it its just so 20th century label, for all anti fascists shortly.

We will be present throughout the day to provide a provisional attempt at the anti fascist spirit and intent necessary if we are to effectively smash fascism off our streets. Watch this page for updates.

Berwick – call for a ban on future protest marches by far-right groups

Berwick Chamber of Trade’s chairman has led calls for a ban on future protest marches through the town by far-right groups.

John Haswell was speaking after the Ban the Burka demonstration by the Scottish Defence League and North East Infidels on Saturday.

They shouldn’t be allowed back,” he said. “It doesn’t do our reputation any good at all. We’re a seaside tourist town and this is the last sort of thing we want our visitors to see.”

A survey he carried out before the event found 155 shops and businesses did not want the protest march coming through town.

Several businesses including Pier Red on Castlegate and The Leaping Salmon on Golden Square stayed closed, sacrificing profits to avoid the risk of potential trouble.

Terri Conway, duty manager at The Leaping Salmon, said: “It was just the chance of something happening – we closed last year when the SDL came to march, and we would close again if they came next year.

“Obviously being closed on a Saturday, when the weather was eventually so nice, hit us very hard.”

Around 40 right-wing protesters marched down Castlegate, along Walkergate to The Parade and back via Cowport to the railway station.

A 100-strong counter-demonstration organised by Berwick Trades Union Council took place on Marygate at the same time.

Phil Thompson, secretary of Berwick TUC, said: “It is vital that we continue to organise, to unite, to make sure they are not allowed to spread their racist and Islamophobic hatred and violence in our community.”

One 39-year-old man, from within the SDL march, was arrested for disorderly conduct and summonsed to appear at court.

Northumberland Police Chief Superintendent Gordon Milward said: “Our aim was to facilitate the marches peacefully and with minimal disruption caused to local people. I think we achieved that, with events on the day passing safely and without any disorder.

Police received widespread praise for their handling of the event, despite continued concerns about the cost of the policing operation.

Mr Haswell said: “It was extremely well policed. Senior officers had assured me beforehand they would handle it and that turned out to be the case.”

Ch Supt Millward said: “My staff on the ground received considerable positive comment from those who were working in or visiting the town. The people who took part in the marches worked constructively with my officers and I’d like to thank the people of Berwick for their patience and cooperation throughout Saturday.”

Work camps and the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement

Since yesterday’s post on British work camps for the unemployed seems to have stirred up a lot of interest, you should check out this blog – the author has written a book on them !

thelearningprofessor

We have a number of organisations and individuals today who campaign for the interests of the unemployed and dispossessed. It is not disparaging their efforts, though, to recognise that we have nothing today to compare with the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement. During the interwar years, according to the historian Rick Croucher, the NUWM’s activities represented ‘a highpoint of unemployed organisation in British history’.

The NUWM is best known for organising the hunger marches, large and spectacular demonstrations that etched themselves into national memories of the 1930s. But it many other, arguably more important roles, from local lobbying and protests through to systematic support and advocacy for individual men and women who were fighting against reductions in their benefits.

Among other campaigns, the NUWM was also active in opposition to the use of work camps. It campaigned in general terms against the camps, it made a public issue of conditions within them, and…

Work Camps in depression-era East Cleveland

They were supposedly part of a charitable scheme that offered alternative employment to the region’s young out-of-work miners.

At their height, the work camps of East Cleveland attracted the great and the good of depression-era Britain and even received a visit from Prince George.

But new research into archive documents and the writings of a self-styled “English Fuhrer” reveal the sinister true motives behind the camps – the Nazi creed of Heartbreak Hill.

During the Great Depression, between 1928 and 1933, the closure of many of East Cleveland’s ironstone mines devastated thousands of families as unemployment soared to 91%.

Under the guidance of their friend Rolf Gardiner, husband and wife Major “Jim” and Ruth Pennyman, of Ormesby Hall, began buying stretches of land around Margrove Park, Boosbeck and Lingdale.

The scheme, known as Heartbreak Hill, worked by providing plots of land that the miners could cultivate as farmland, the miners were then paid in produce.

The plan was lauded as a great success and attracted the attention of 1930s high society with Prince George’s visiting 1933.

Yet behind the plaudits and royal visits, it appears the scheme was designed to promote an ideology founded in Nazism – and the connection can be traced to Rolf Gardiner.

Aristocratic and charismatic, the blond haired, blue-eyed Gardiner spoke fluent German, was a prolific writer, folk dancer and a rural revivalist.

He helped pioneer organic farming and co-founded Kinship in Husbandry, a forerunner of today’s Soil Association.

But Gardiner was also an anti-Semite, a Nazi sympathiser and the self-described Fuhrer of German-style youth movements in England.

In his writings found by the Gazette at Tees Archives in Middlesbrough, Gardiner rants of how a “Jew-controlled press, cinema, wireless and advertising,” had “corrupted the soul of England”.

In another piece Gardiner wrote: “Germany has the innate power to claim captaincy of European civilisation at a time when it is menaced from without and within.”

Perhaps most unsettling is the letter Gardiner wrote on April 25, 1933 to the infamous Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels.

Gardiner begins: “Esteemed Herr Reich Minister,” before introducing himself as the “Fuhrer of a young English generation”.

Explaining the difficulties he had faced while setting up a far-right youth movement in England he wrote: “An entire old world stood opposed to our direction and wanted to reverse it. For we sought the new order of a third Reich…

“We wanted to bring about not brotherhood but spiritual combat… We thought in an undemocratic and un-pacifist way.”

Goebbels immediately published the letter as an example of Nazi support in Britain.

It was in 1929 that Gardiner first wrote to the Pennymans with his idea of politicising Cleveland youths under the guise of work camps for the unemployed.

Beginning, “My dear Jim and Ruth,” Gardiner wrote: “Our business is to create something new, something rooted in faith and obedience which may survive the storms which loom and break over England.

“Here’s your job! To initiate something new, and to kindle the life quality where it has been quenched.

“In the neighbourhood of every fluctuating industry today, we ought to be starting some form of rural activity which will about and train the surplus young men.

“Try to get the young socialists and communists to meet the “Imps”… Start your smaller discussion groups.

“Get them to report the result of their discussions to the united assembly afterwards, but be careful whom you put in charge of the groups.”

“You’ll have to sift your human material somewhat cunningly at first and pick out the live-wires from the furred ones: for upon your original nucleus, your larger one will later on depend…

…Have organization and real discipline whenever it is necessary.”

Throughout the 1930s, Gardiner set up similar work camps across Britain, all following the same ideology.

The Gardiner’s camps received regular visits from Nazi youth groups led by Georg Gotsch, director of the Musikheim in Frankfurt, described by Gardiner as being “a true executor of the ideas of the National Socialist state”.

In an Evening Gazette interview after his visit to the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Jim Pennyman said: “So much had been said about the bullying of the Jews and political opponents that Hitler’s constructive ideas had been overlooked in many circles.

“The treatment of individual Jews is to English eyes inexcusable but this is not the first time, that in a revolution, people have been deprived of their property.

“There are two classes of Jews to whom the Hitler regime objects, namely the international financier and the Jews who filter in from the East.

“They say Germany is for the Germans, and no foreigner will be allowed to own land or have an important position in the state service.”

While this doesn’t look good in retrospect, it should be understood that in the early 1930s, the true nature of Nazi ideology was poorly understood by most.

At that time there was widespread feeling that the Treaty of Versailles imposed unfair punishment on Germany and that the Nazi’s demands were in some ways justified.

And it should be noted that when asked if he would like to see any form of Hitlerism or Fascism introduced into Britain, Jim’s reply was: “Most decidedly No”.

Also “Red Ruth” Pennyman, as she was known, considered herself to be a communist.

It seems that towards the final years of the scheme, Ruth’s influence succeeded in marginalising Gardiner.

Finally, the record shows that towards the outbreak of WW2, the Pennymans distanced themselves from Gardiner.

Major Pennyman was promoted to Colonel and remained steadfastly loyal to Britain.

Gardiner himself turned his back on Nazism but did keep in touch with his friend, the convicted war criminal and Reichs minister for agriculture Richard Darre.

And history shows that despite the efforts of a fanatical few, the ideals of National Socialism never caught on with the people of East Cleveland.

“Ban The Unemployed From Voting”

Defrocked UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom, a swivel-eyed loon of the first order, has come up with another one – ban the unemployed from voting.

He has attacked the fact that some will still get a vote even if they have “contributed nothing to the national exchequer at all and maybe never will”.

You might well think he’s talking about corporations who pay no tax here, or rich individuals who can afford accountants to bend the rules to avoid paying their fair share, but of course no…Bloom subscribes to that weird right-wing theory that the poorest are to blame for everything, and are probably doing it just to be spiteful.

No, his solution is that  the electoral system needs to give “more electoral power” to the wealthy who “create the revenue”.

In other words, a system where the vote of the richest is always worth more than that of the poorer electorate, and those at the bottom getting none at all.

Good thinking Godfrey ! When the worst off in society cant even comfort themselves with the thought of voting idiots like you out at the next election (even though that prospect is a rank outsider at the best of times) then maybe bombs not ballots will become the order of the day. Because once you’re totally disenfranchised, what have you got to lose ?

He explained his rationale further – “I do not expect to vote in a Unite ballot because I am not a member and pay no dues. I do not expect a vote at Marks and Spencer’s AGM because I am not a shareholder. We need to get to a system where the interest of the individual and the state are more compatible.”

Yes Godfrey but… you see, this is a nation, not a company or a trade union. The vast majority didn’t apply to join it, we just ended up here as an accident of birth.  If the accident had been slightly different some of us might have been born with silver spoons in our mouths and would spend our days trying to dodge paying taxes rather than scraping by.

And this idea that the poorest contribute nothing. Bloom, who apparently worked as a financial economist (although it may be worth noting that in 2008 Bloom’s company,TBO, was fined £28,000 by the Financial Services Authority for ‘posing an “unacceptable risk” to customers) doesn’t seem to realise that however poor you might be you still pay taxes – Council Tax and VAT at the very least. Some unfortunates also have to pay the Bedroom Tax.  So lets have less of this “contributing nothing” crap.

Of course the man’s an arse, although what that makes the people who voted for him I shudder to think (and I am almost tempted to suggest that they are the people who should have their right to vote removed).

He is a member of the Ludwig von Mises Institute, a tax-exempt libertarian organization located in Auburn, Alabama.   Its website states that it is dedicated to advancing “the Misesian tradition of thought through the defense of the market economy, private property, sound money, and peaceful international relations, while opposing government intervention”  and has published views critical of democracy, which authors in Institute publications have called coercive, and incompatible with wealth creation… so I think we have pretty good idea of where he’s coming from.

Bloom, who seems to hate women almost as much as the poor,  confessed that has visited brothels in Hong Kong. He claimed however he never consummated the visits (even the most hard up prostitute has to draw the line somewhere …) and also claimed “terrified young women beaten into prostitution often from Eastern Europe […] is only a very small aspect of the flesh trade”, and concluded that “in short, most girls do it because they want to.”

After inviting students from the University of Cambridge Women’s Rugby Club to Brussels in 2004, he was accused of sexual assault, making “sexist and misogynistic remarks” and using offensive language during a dinner party. One student handed a formal letter of protest to the President of the European Parliament, heavily criticising Bloom’s behaviour.

Bloom who sponsored the club with £3,000 a year, admitted making misogynist comments but denied sexual harassment. Perhaps, given his Hong Kong experiences, he thought his three grand actually entitled him to act like that.

In December 2008, Bloom was carried out by an intern after making a speech in the European Parliament while drunk, the second occasion on which he was accused of being drunk in the chamber. During the speech, Bloom denied that MEPs from Poland, the Czech Republic or Latvia have the ability to understand economic relations.

On 24 November 2010, Bloom was ejected from the European Parliament after directing a Nazi slogan at German MEP Martin Schulz who was speaking in a debate on the economic crisis in Ireland. Bloom interrupted Schulz and shoutedEin Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer at him.

Bloom was filmed at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen congratulating the French for bombing the Rainbow Warrior, a Greenpeace ship, in 1985.

In the clip, posing in front of the present Greenpeace flagship, Rainbow Warrior II, Bloom said, “Here we have one of the most truly fascist boats since 1945, well done the French for sinking (it).”

Truly a prince among men…

Northern Patriotic Front – More Sad Right-Wing Bastards

We get all sorts of rubbish coming through the letter-box nowadays (obviously a growth area, considering the Job Centre vaccancies are dominated by positions for “self-employed” leaflet distributors !). But what we got to day was not just rubbish, it was nasty rubbish…

“Introducing The Northern Patriotic Front”  trumpeted the flyer, going on to inform us  that the NPF is “a campaigning organization based in the North of England and in Scotland. We firmly believe that the actions of politicians representing the so-called main-stream political parties are destroying our British way of life with the ultimate intent of collaborating in the destruction of our British race.”

You get the idea. It probably wont suprise you to hear that this sad bunch, operating out of a Sunderland PO Box, have been described as having “been set up by a number of disillusionedNational Front members” – disillusioned presumably because the NF aren’t right wing enough.

Its all the usual old rubbish –

“Britain continues to be swamped by immigrants”,

“The white British population  will rapidly become a minority and be displaced.”

“White children are being taught to hate their own culture”

You know, as a white British male myself, I haven’t got a clue what this white British culture I’m apparently in danger of losing actually is, and the NPF dont define it, so I guess they dont really know either.

Since the NPF are operating out of a Sunderland adress, it may be instructive to look at some of the statistics for the city from the 2011 census…

The first thing worth noting is that over the period 2001 to 2011 overall, the North East population increased by only 2.2%: the slowest rate in the UK. Not exactly a region being swamped by anyone, let alone immigrants.

Moreover, Sunderland’s population actually declined by 3.2%  (neighbouring South Tyneside also fell, by 3.1%).  So wherever this alledged swamping is happening, its not in the NPF’s backyard.

But the biggest debunker of this nonsense is the figures of the city’s population broken down by ethnic groups –

White   95.9%
Mixed  0.6%
Asian / British Asian  2.7%
Black / Black British  0.5%
Other  0.3%

Evidently those dastardly immigrants are going to have to put in a lot of work before they get to swamp Sunderland !

Of course anyone with half a brain  can see through the NPF and their fellow travellers and their agenda of  stirring up hate and divide and rule. Still, if you dont have the necessry brain cells and do want to join their  crusade, the annual subscription  is a tenner. But be warned – not just anyone can join their gang – you have to state that :

*I am 14 years or older
*I am of white parentage
* I am not an illegal drug user
*My spouse/partner is of white parentage
*I am not homosexual
*I am not a member of any other political party

Not just racist but homophobic too. They like to cover all the bases, don’t they ?

You can tell them what you think of them at:  NPF, PO Box 1352, Sunderland, SR5 9NE

Or you might want to phone them:  0773 3511 761

And you know the biggest irony ? Their leaflet came through the door along with the usual flyers for pizza places, Indian takeaways, etc . Yes, they were swamped by flyers for “foreign” food, the most obvious and easily embraceable example of multicultural Britain.

Stuff your undefined  “British culture”…I’m off for a Chinese.
